ExperienceI am currently a PhD candidate and teaching assistant at Rutgers University. I teach the lab portion of the general biology course for majors. I have been doing this for about two years but I also have significant previous teaching experience with children younger than college age. I taught swim lessons and coached swim team for multiple years and work well with both children and young adults.
I specialize in working to engage students with the material at hand. I do this by trying to find access points to stimulate a deeper interest and thus, understanding of concepts. The best fit for me as a tutor are children that think outside the box. Often, this can categorized as having a learning disability but also can be a circumstance related to a disconnect between teacher and student in the classroom setting. In order to prevent discouragement due to this over the course of the school year, I think it's important to harness and encourage the student's strong points while working towards better grades!
Hobbiesactivities: climbing, camping, hiking, bug collecting, yoga, meditation, racket sports!
interests: pop culture--movies, music, books, coffee, science, etc!
